Abstract

Emotional disorders in childhood can present both as psychic symptoms and in the form of various somatic complaints. In children under seven years of age, the most common somatic complaint is abdominal pain, while in adolescents it would be pain in a limb or headache. Central nervous system symptoms, such as gait abnormalities or fainting, are more common with advancing age and development.
