El tratamiento de las epilepsias como enfermedad neuropsiquiátrica y con un componente social evidente, depende en primer lugar de un correcto diagnóstico y de un tratamiento, cada vez más eficaz a la luz de las nuevas investigaciones, teniendo en cuenta las interacciones farmacológicas, el cálculo de la dosis (determinaciones plasmáticas, etc), la disyuntiva entre la monoterapia y politerapia, los efectos secundarios y los trastornos psíquicos asociados tan importantes en el ámbito de la psiquiatría infanto-juvenil.
