Abstract

The historical figure of Agustín Serrate Torrente, a great pioneer of Spanish child psychiatry, is presented in this article. That he inaugurated in 1967, in the context of the Psychiatry chair founded by Professor Ramón Rey Ardid in Zaragoza, one of the first child psychiatry units in our country, with patients from the most diverse places in northern Spain. He was a chronicler of the first 25 years of the Spanish Society of Child Neuropsychiatry (SENPI, now AEPNYA) and the first director of the Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, founded in 1983. In Vienna he was elected, for his scientific and human merits, in 1975, President of the European Union of Pediatric Psychiatrists (UEP, current ESCAP).
