A descriptive study of tbe psycbiatry emergencies of teenagers between 14 and 18 years old was perjormed in the Clinical University Hospital of Valencia. A retrospective survey revising the case histories of teenagers that were visited in emergency seruice during a one and a half year period (!une 1992-December 1993). In our sample we obtain that the age group between 17 and 18 years is the group with the highest incidence (53.2%) and no differences are Jound in distribution by gender
(50%).
The most common consulting motive is a physical symptom without organic findings and the most Jrequent diagnosis is an:x:iety disorder (24%). Benzodiazepines are the most commonly prescribed drugs, altbougb in 56% of patients it is not used any pharmacological treatment.
