Abstract

In the past few decades interest in Eating Disorders (DE) has increased. Published reports increase each year. The incidence of this DE has also grown, in the US as well as in Europe. Even so, few works have documented these tendencies in our country although we see them in our daily work. In this report we describe the demand far care of DE in the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Unit (area III) of the city of Zaragoza Jrom 1991 to 1995 and we compare our results to those found ten years earlier, from 1981 to 1985. We observed an important increase in DE both each year and comparatively between the two 4 year periods. Other Eds (bulimia, atypical anorexia nervosa) have also increased recently. We also provide further details on clinical characteristics and sociodemographics far both groups and their evolution in time.
