Resumen

El estudio de los mecanismos de neurotrans­misión constituye un capítulo central en la investigación de los trastornos del desarrollo en Psiquiatría Infantil y, por supuesto, en la investigación de los trastornos depresivos y de la esquizofrenia. Sus aplicaciones abarcan dos grandes áreas: el descubrimiento de los meca­nismos etiopatogénicos subyacentes y el ha­llazgo de nuevos fármacos y alternativas tera­péuticas.
