Abstract

Background: ADHD is a neurodevelopmental disorder characterized by inattention, hyperactivity and / or impulsivity. Objectives: To analyze the prevalence of ADHD in pediatric age in a Health Sector in Zaragoza, and to assess diagnosis and treatment from Primary Care, as well as referral to Specialized Care. To study the potential differences in prevalence rates between urban and rural Health Centers, and in socioeconomic or immigration levels. Material and methods: Study of the prevalence of ADHD in the pediatric age group at the Health Centers of a particular Health Sector in Zaragoza, as of May 2020. Descriptive analysis based on variables such as sex, age of diagnosis, referral or not to Specialized Care, Health Center, income level, type of population and immigration status. Results and conclusions: 1012 ADHD patients were studied, 68.5% of whom were male and 31.5% female, with a mean age at diagnosis of 7.46 ± 2.512 years. 24.4% (N = 247) were referred to Mental Health, finding significant differences between Centers. The prevalence of ADHD was 3.35%, therefore lower than that described in other series. There were no significant differences in prevalence according to socioeconomic level, type of population, or percentage of immigration. The referral rate to Mental Health in urban population was higher, as well as the age of diagnosis in immigrants.
