Abstract

We are having increasing evidence about the importance of organic factors in the ethiology of infantile autism. Some findings suggest a relation, no yet clearly stablished, between autism and chromosomal abnormalities (fragile X, XXY, iso¬dicentric Y and long Y).
This paper presents three new cases of autism associated with a long Y chromosome (Yq+), and shows similar alterations in the cariotype of this patients’ parents and brothers.
We discuss the implications of these findings in the understanding of the ethiology of child autism.
