Age of onset and clinical picture as prognosis factors in attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD)

Objective: To study the relationship between age of' onset and symptoms in thir(v three children with Attention Deficit Hiperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and to compare them with thirty two children diagnosed to Behavior Disorder (BD ). Clinical and prognosis implications are discussed. Method: Three hundred eight clínica! records, covering a period of 15 years. Consensus diagnosis were assigned using best-estimate procedures far ADHD and Behavior disorder (BD). Results: ADHD clinical symptoms begin at earlier age and learning problems are more promínent and ímpairíng. Aggressiveness is in ali groups a predictor of poor outcome. Conclusíons: ADHD starts at earlier age than BD and the severity of the clinical picture is higher as the age of onset is lower.
