Dissociative disorders constitute a frequently hidden and neglected mental health problem. Among all of them, the dissociative identity disorder (DID) is the most serious and complex pathology. DID is a chronic condition, characterized by disruption in autobiographical memory and the sense of having a unified identity. DID usually originates in the context of severe trauma during the patient´s childhood. We report the case of a 16 year old boy referred to our Psychiatric inpatient unit. Across this report, we highlight the main symptoms of this disorder, the risk factors for the development of the disorder and a summarized form of the psychotherapeutic approach. Likewise, we also show the results obtained in different neuropsychological assessments (The Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, The Spanish-Complutensian Verbal Learning test for children, the Millon Adolescent Clinical Inventory and the Multidimensional Inventory of Dissociation).
