Abstract

In this article, the editor of the magazine Child & Adolescent Psychopharmacology News (CAPN) offers his reflections on the usefulness of Imipramine as a treatment for anxiety attacks in children and adolescents. He begins by acknowledging its efficacy in treating adults with anxiety attacks, and also that no studies have been published on the subject in children and adolescents. Remember that some data suggest that the serum levels of lmipramine + Desipramine (generally at daily doses of around 1.5-3.0 mg / k) correlate satisfactorily with a positive short-term evolution, and that, in addition, the maintenance of the lmipramine treatment for 12 to 18 months after stabilization appears to be associated with a lower relapse rate after discontinuation.
