Objective/Scope
The Revista de Psiquiatría Infanto-Juvenil (Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry) published quarterly, is the official publication of the Spanish Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Association (AEPNYA). It sets out to participate, through its publication, in improving the quality of clinical care, research, teaching and management of all aspects (theoretical and practical) related with child and adolescent psychiatry. It is thus interested in the publication of manuscripts based on the study of these contents from different and diverse points of view: genetic, epidemiological, clinical, psychotherapeutic, pharmacological, socio-sanitary etc., as well as from a social, cultural and economic perspective. The journal is aimed at psychologists and psychiatrists specialising in children and adolescents interested in public health issues.
The Journal of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry adheres to the Uniform Requirements for Manuscripts submitted to Biomedical Journals (5th edition, http://www.icmje.org): International Committee of Medical Journal Editors and Vancouver Standards, 1997.
Originals for publication should be sent through the OJS platform.
The Revista de Psiquiatría Infanto-Juvenil does not have article processing charges (APC). This journal has been fully sponsored, since its creation, by the Spanish Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Association (AEPNYA).
Peer review process
All manuscripts received are reviewed in advance using Crossref's Similarity Check system. All manuscripts not rejected in the first instance by the Editorial Committee will be sent for external review. Manuscripts are submitted to at least two reviewers regarded as experts by the Revista de Psiquiatría Infanto-Juvenil. The choice of reviewers for each paper will be based on the content of the manuscript. Depending on the contents of the manuscript, specialised technical, statistical and pharmacological evaluations may be requested when the work refers to clinical trials and drug use. In any case, the entire review process will be confidential and anonymous, and manuscripts without authorship will be sent to the reviewers.
Based on the reviewers' reports, the Editorial Committee will decide whether or not to publish the paper, and it may ask the authors to clarify some points or alter different aspects of the manuscript. Should this be the case, the author has a maximum of one month to submit a new version with the proposed changes. After this period, if a new version has not been received, the article will be deemed to have been withdrawn. Furthermore, the Editorial Committee may propose the acceptance of the paper in a section other than the one proposed by the authors.
The publisher will review the formal aspects of the work, as described in these guidelines. A manuscript may be returned to its authors owing to non-compliance with the submission guidelines.
Once the papers have been accepted, the manuscripts are subjected to morpholinguistic and stylistic correction. Authors may check the changes made upon receipt of the galley proofs, approve such changes or suggest modifications.

Ethical responsibilities in biomedical research
The research deriving from the articles submitted must comply with Law 14/2007 of 3 July 2007 on Biomedical Research and its subsequent amendments, as well as with the Declaration of Helsinki and its subsequent amendments.
If a patient's identity can be recognised, or if a photo of the patient is to be published, the patient's informed consent must be submitted (download here).
In the event of conflicts of interest, and/or if sponsorship or scholarships have been received, they must always be declared.
In the event of the use of animals for experimental or other scientific purposes, the declaration of compliance with European and national laws (Royal Decree 1201/2005 of 10 October on the protection of animals used for experimental and other scientific purposes, and subsequent amendments and regulations) must be provided.
Authors are responsible for obtaining permission to reproduce material (text, tables, figures) from other publications.
The list of authors should include only those persons who have contributed intellectually to the work’s development. Generally speaking, the following requirements must be met in order to be listed as an author:
- To have participated in the design and carrying out of the work that has resulted in the article in question.
- To have participated in the drafting of the text and possible revisions thereof.
- To have approved the version finally to be published. The Editorial Secretariat declines any responsibility for any possible conflicts arising from the authorship of the papers.
The content of the article must be completely original and it must not have been previously published, nor have been submitted to any other publication nor submitted for consideration or review. This latter restriction does not apply to abstracts deriving from presentations at Congresses or other scientific meetings, nor to originals that are an extension of the preliminary results of work previously presented at meetings, congresses or symposia, in which case the name, city and date must be indicated, and the work presented must be sent together with the manuscript to certify that the original article contains data which are different or extended results compared with those of the communication. Authors should be aware that failure to disclose that material submitted for publication has already been wholly or partially published constitutes a serious breach of scientific ethics.
In the case of the description of Clinical Cases, when the patient can be recognised by the description of the disease or by the figures illustrating the article, the attendant informed consent must be sent with permission for the publication of both the text of the article and the images thereof. Furthermore, the authors should declare that they have followed the protocols put into place by their respective health centres for accessing the data in the medical records for the purpose of making this type of publication for research/dissemination purposes for the scientific community.
Publication ethics
The Revista de Psiquiatría Infanto-Juvenil sets out to improve every day its processes of receiving, reviewing, editing and publishing scientific articles. This is why it implements the guidelines of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE) in terms of Publication Ethics to avoid any misconduct in the publication, adopting flexible procedures for correction and withdrawal and guaranteeing readers that all published articles have met the quality criteria defined in the Guide for Authors. The following are regarded as misconduct and grounds for rejection of the manuscript at any stage of the publication process: redundant publication, plagiarism, falsification of data (photos, statistics, graphs etc.), falsification of information (authors' affiliation, signatures etc.) and impersonation and falsification of authorship.
